Traditional Chinese Herb

Traditional Chines Herb

TCM herbal remedies are divided into 5 different seasons. These seasons include fall, winter, spring, summer and late summer. According to the principles that are followed here, the universal energy is at its highest during the summer and herbs are most abundant in the late summer. All foods are also viewed from an energy perspective. Of course, food also provides nutrition, vitamins and calories, but the energy is what is most important here. With this in mind, it is believed that each food vibrates at a specific energy frequency that corresponds to a specific organ. These energies know how to thrive in specific seasons, which corresponds with a specific organ. Each is attracted to the other like magnets and they also enhance one another.

It is important to understand these things about TCM herbal remedies. Of course, it has taken thousands of years to learn this information. With this in mind, some foods can be used as herbal remedies which can help increase or decrease a person's vital energy. For instance, sunflower causes energy to rise, while a plant's root causes energy to flow downwards.

While the principles behind TCM herbal remedies regard food as having healing energies, practitioners are not past using herbs to dramatically help increase the energy within these foods. Many foods and herbs are often mixed together and cooked for hours. As such, the nutritional value has been cooked out of it. Nevertheless, the mixture is still very effective in treating various conditions because of how the energy that remains in it effects the body.

People who believe in the power that is found in TCM herbal remedies truly believe that the universe has provided us with a powerful, natural way in which to maintain good health. In this ancient system of TCM herbal remedies the various factors that contribute to your body being out of harmony are examined so that a permanent solution to the issue can be found. It is believed that this is much better than just treating the symptoms.

Practitioners of this system are able to use herbs in such a way as to be able to find relief from their physical and mental ailments. With this in mind, there seems to be a lot that can be learned here. This deep knowledge is definitely worth the time it takes to learn it because you will then be able to live in harmony with your body.

Meditation makes me a better trader

Brett Traynor (right), 33, runs Saxon Financials, a company that provides support and training to traders. Having worked as a trader on the SGX floor, he has had his share of intensely stressful days.

'I remember getting off the SGX floor one day, sitting in a chair, shaking and feeling my heart racing. I remember thinking, 'What's wrong with me, am I having a heart attack?' And then I thought, 'Maybe its the four coffees I've drunk today.'

'I discovered the Clairvision School of Meditation 41/2years ago. I started with five minutes of meditation a day and now I meditate for an hour every morning before I go to work.

'It's hard at first, but rewarding in the long run. When you talk of meditation, you hear the word 'relaxation' being bandied about. But it's made me more focused, more driven and, as a trader, it has taught me not to get sucked into things even in the middle of a chaotic day.

'Meditation gives me a clear sense of space, peace and stillness. I find that I am a lot more centred and a lot less reactive. This means more productivity and less conflict. It also gives me clarity in a situation.'

'It's a myth that if you meditate, you won't get angry. The stillness just enables you to have a delay before that whooshing angry feeling takes over. There's a sense of 'me' separate from the things that are happening. You learn to feel and hold emotions better and that improves your willpower.

'I think it really is about quieting the mind, building vision and seeing the things that hold you back, the structures that prevent you from improving and doing better.'

Natural remedies for kids

Natural Remedies. -Natural remedies for kids

Some parents like Ms Jessamine Teo, mother of three girls aged 16 months, six and seven years, have switched to herbal or natural cough and cold remedies.

Ms Teo, 35, uses a herbal cough and cold syrup made by Gaia Herbs, which she stumbled on last year. 'I used the tonic prescribed by my doctor and it made them very drowsy, so I decided to try a more natural one,' Ms Teo said.

She believes that the tonic has helped shorten the duration and frequency of the colds her girls get.

'My children have sensitive noses, especially the middle one who gets a cold very fast with the mildest change in weather,' she said.

This is why she prefers to use natural preparations instead of over-the-counter drugs, Ms Teo said.

Mr James P.T. Ong, who owns Vitakids, a local store distributing natural remedies, said the shop sells preparations for coughs made from wild cherry, elderberry and cinnamon bark which supposedly soothe inflamed throats and strengthen the immune system.

'The products have been formulated by a naturopath doctor and a herbalist,' Mr Ong said.

Horsetail

Herbal Remedy For Inflammation: Horsetail

Horsetail is a herbal remedy for inflammation, It is one of the oldest known herbal remedies. In fact, it is believed that this herb is a close relative of the trees which grew on Earth about 270 million years ago during the Carboniferous period. The Greeks used this herb to help heal wounds and the Chinese used it to help heal fevers. Today, horsetail is the source of the modern cola seams.

This herb is brittle and grows in jointed stems. It is these jointed stems that are used in numerous herbal remedies. Unfortunately, a lot of people do not know about this and thus they look at this plant as nothing more than an invasive weed. On the other hand, herbalists find this to be one of their standby favorites and thus they harvest it throughout its growing season.

Horsetail has a dry, slightly bitter taste. Some of the major components of this plant include alkaloids (including nicotine) and several minerals including potassium, manganese, and magnesium. As such, this herb can be used in many herbal remedies as an astringent, an anti-inflammatory, a tissue healer, a strong diuretic and it can also stop bleeding.

While a lot of parts of this plant can be used, the most commonly used parts are the aerial parts. These parts are where the astringent is found. The stems of this herb can also be used to stop bleeding, nosebleeds and heavy menstruation. Some of the other herbal remedies that horsetail is used for include treating urinary tract infections and prostate disorders. It can also be used to control bed-wetting and to treat various skin conditions such as eczema and acne. A lot of herbalists also use this as one of the herbal remedies for lung disease. Other uses for horsetail include treating eye inflammations and infections, including conjunctivitis and corneal disorders.

As a herbal remedy for inflammation, the horsetail can be prepared in a decoction by simmering the aerial parts of this plant for at least 3 hours in order to extract its primary constituents. Another way in which horsetail can be used is as a poultice, which is made by crushing the plant's aerial parts into a powder and then making it into a paste. Furthermore, horsetail can also be used as a mouthwash and gargle when it is diluted. Many herbalists also recommend drinking horsetail as a juice by liquidizing its stems. If neither of these options appeal to you, then you should know that powdered horsetail can also be taken in the form of a capsule form. Oftentimes, this is the more convenient form that is used in herbal remedies.
